Healing Faith

One ministry we had the pleasure of serving alongside was Kari & Jason Segner's ministry, Healing Faith.  They moved their family of 6 from Texas to Uganda a little over a year ago.  They're doing some amazing things there and we're so excited that we had the chance to serve alongside them!

{from their website - about HF}

Healing Faith is a ministry that seeks to provide healing physically, emotionally and spiritually to the people of Uganda. We will provide physical healing through medical and maternal care. We also hope to enable an emotional and spiritual healing by showing the love and grace of our Savior to the people of Uganda. We want to seek God’s will in our lives as we serve his children and people in Uganda.

To learn more about Healing Faith, check out their website HERE. And if you're looking for a ministry to support - please considering praying about Healing Faith!

Now... here are some pictures from our afternoon in the villages with them!

They start each visit to the villages with a little fun and games!  It gives the families a chance to make their way over - as well as a way to bond and have some fun with the younger ones!

Jason bringing in some of the supplies!  {such a Ugandan already!}

Steven from our team got to work closely alongside Jason as they triaged patients!

Jessica, Sarah and Rachel painted nails... even the boys came running!

Kari & Jason - thank you for allowing us to experience what you do!  What an amazing thing you are all doing and we're excited about our next trip back!

Afternoon in the markets

We got to experience the markets one afternoon while in Uganda!  This was a first for all of us and one I will never forget!  I loved the true experience of a new culture by simply going and walking the markets!  It was crowded, exciting and oh so different from anything here in America!  See for yourself!

Vendors are set up all over and each one begging for your business!  Its hard to say, "no thank you" to so many - but you have to and continue on.

Fish galore!

Thank goodness for Kari's help!  Everything is measured in kilo and if you ask me - I'm clueless!

At first glance you might think those are limes... but they're actually oranges!

Serving His Children

While in Jinja our team had the privilege of visiting with another ministry, Serving His Children.

Serving His Children is a pretty amazing ministry run by a woman named Renee Bach.  We met up with her mid week to take a tour of their facility and learn more about her ministry.

{From their website}
Serving His Children’s mission is to reflect the unconditional love of Christ as we rehabilitate the physical bodies of severely malnourished children and strive to make long term changes in the hearts of the families involved.  It is our belief that malnutrition is a cycle and that the physical body of a child may be healed but the cycle will not be broken without the education of the family and changes in the home.  We believe that every family comes to us by divine appointment and it is our desire that no one should leave without a clear physical picture of the love of Christ and an understanding of His saving gospel!
. . . . . . . . . . . . .

We were so excited to learn about them and how they help to nourish these children back to health.  But more importantly, how they educate the families in the process.  It was so encouraging to see the process of how they do this with each family that comes in!

Renee has a pretty incredible testimony herself - just to see how the Lord brought her to Uganda by starting a feeding program - to evolving into something even deeper!  She is a remarkable woman doing the work of the Lord through Serving His Children!

While visiting with them, we were able to deliver many of the donations that so many of you graciously donated prior to our leaving for Uganda.  What a blessing they were to them and we thankful to have been able to give them.

To learn more about Renee Bach and her ministry, Serving His Children... go check out there website HERE.  We're so thankful we got to visit with them and learn more about their work!  We pray you might consider getting involved and seeing how you can be a blessing to them!

Jewelry for a Cause!

We're so excited about some beautiful new necklaces + bracelets we found while in Uganda!
Although we have not had a chance to update the shop with these beauties - we promise to have them up VERY soon!  :)

We're so excited about each and every piece we found... but one particular necklace especially!  Damalie knows a group of grandmothers whom she has been working to help!  She has them create these beautiful paper bead necklaces, then Damalie sells them on their behalf to help create income.  We stocked up on most all of what she had and absolutely LOVE the necklaces!  They're bright and vibrant and will make beautiful new additions to the shop!  But most of all, our profits will go back to helping get Damalie + the babies into a permanent home on their new land!

So if you were already thinking of buying a new necklace, maybe you will consider buying something from our shop to help support the Sangaalo Building Project!

Many thanks... Voices 4 the Voiceless Team

From the words of Brantley....

In the words of Brantley...

Wow, where do I even begin this morning.  My heart is heavy and full, overflowing with joy and sadness.  How is it possible to exude two very different emotions.  The plans for today were very different - as I had already begun to prepare posts for the day.

But when I woke up this morning, Damalie {with Sangaalo} was so heavy on my heart.  We got up, fixed breakfast for our little one and my husband, Richard set off for work.  The urge was too much, so I picked up the phone to call her.  I had to hear her voice... and just talk.  I missed her so much and wanted desperately to hear her voice.  Leaving Uganda just recently was so hard and saying goodbyes are even worse.  Her husband picked up.  He said, "hang on, Damalie is across the way, let me go get her.  She'll be happy to hear your voice."  A moment passed and she picked up.  Sigh.  Her voice was calm, but I knew something wasn't right.  I asked how she was, how were the babies, etc.

She said, "Jackie passed away this morning."

{Brantley, baby Jackie and Damalie}

My heart sank!  I was speechless.  She began to cry and then I did.  Just a few days ago I met this sweet baby girl for the first time.  Damalie placed her in my arms and I even got to feed her a bottle. I held her close and snuggled with her.  It felt so right, so precious and sweet.  And now, here I am, crying with my precious friend on the other line as we talk about the passing of this child.  The tears flowed from my eyes and all I could do was cry with her.  I felt like I was hugging her from across the world.  If only I could physically hug her right now.

Although death is difficult and often times an overwhelming part of life.  {for me, almost unbearable to process most days}  The Lord has really spoken to me this morning.  He has shown me comfort through the Bible.  I feel His presence and although questions arise, and the difficulty to understand the "why?" surround my thoughts... I know that the ultimate purpose is for HIS glory.  So, today, through the mourning of my tears - I choose to rejoice with JOY.  Rejoice in that He is God and He is deserving of glory even during the difficult times of grief.

Today, I am comforted by a loving, gracious God and by His Word.

{Romans 8:27-28}
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,
who have been called according to his purpose.

{Isaiah 41:10}
So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

{Psalm 91:2}
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

Today, I am thankful for a precious life, Damalie.  So thankful the Lord led our family to Uganda, and thankful that we met Damalie when we did.  I am most thankful for my sweet sweet friendship with her and the opportunity to be able to share in life with her from across the world.  Such a blessing!  I am truly blessed by her and thankful for her heart!  The Lord has entrusted her with so many precious babies and I praise Him for the work He is doing in her life!  She loves these little lives like they are her own.  What a special gift that is to find in anyone.

"Lord, please surround Damalie with your loving arms.  Wrap them snug around her and give her peace and comfort that only YOU can give.  Let your light shine for the world to see during this time of grieving.  Lord, please use this little life as a testimony for YOUR greater purpose.  Please continue to use our team to go out and be a voice for the fatherless - to give glory to you in everything!  Lord please mold Damalie, continue to teach her what is means to love.  Continue to show her your ways and direct her down the path you have for her life.  Lord please be with Damalie, the aunties and all of the babies there at Sangaalo.  Lord, you are their Heavenly Father and we praise you for these gifts!  Thank you for loving them FIRST! - Amen"

Thank you for joining us in prayer!

Dolls for Uganda

One of the exciting things we worked on prior to leaving for Uganda was making dolls!

• Numerous individuals and families donated fabric, stuffing & supplies!

• Over 6 people worked long, hard hours to get the dolls completed in time!

• And 50+ dolls ended up being adopted so that children could have a doll!

It really was exciting to see everything come together!  We were not only able to provide something tangible for a small child to keep - but we were able to raise funds to bless many during our time there!

Thank you ALL for making this possible!

Here are just a few images of the children with their new dolls!

Thank you all again so much!
